This process is open to all recognised dairy breeds within New Zealand. Dairy breeds that will not be accepted are: Boer, Angora, or any other non-dairy goat breed.
Goats that are part of the breeding up process will given a generation number (G1-G6) to show where they are in the breeding up process. Generation 6 (G6) will be considered purebred.
The offspring will always be one generation higher than the lowest parent eg, a G1 doe mated to a G1 buck will result in G2 offspring. A G 1 doe mated to a G4 buck will result in G2 offspring.
This section is open to all dairy breed does. At the time of registration the breed must be stated that the doe conforms to and any known pedigree information is to be provided. A goat from an unknown pedigree, or partially known may be accepted for fountation but must conform to the breed standard of selected breed and be free from disqualifying faults listed within the breed standard. This section is only open to does.
G1 Offspring are the offspring of 2 registered parents, in most cases a registered Nigerian Dwarf & a registered standard dairy goat. A 2nd generation G2 would be the offspring of a registered 1st gen Experimental crossed with a registered 1st gen or higher Mini dairy goat of the same breed.
G1-G2 are miniature dairy goats that are usually first- or second- generation miniature dairy goats (G1 and G2).
These individuals do not have to meet the breed standards of their chosen breed
G3-G5 are miniature dairy goats that are third-, fourth-, and fifth- generation miniature dairy goats (G3, G4, and G5)..
Each animal MUST meet ALL standards for its specific breed.
If an animal belongs to one of these generations and does not meet ALL standards for its specific breed, it will be entered back into G2 with an * after the registration number.
"Purebreds” are miniature dairy goats that are sixth-generation (G6) or higher. A “Purebred” MUST meet ALL standards for its specified breed.
